Homemade mincemeat makes a huge difference to your mince pies. There are lots of variations out there but below is our favourite:

Ingredients:

500g Suet
425ml Rum or Brandy
250g Sultanas
450g Dark Sugar
250g Raisins
100g Flaked almonds
250g Mixed Peel
500g Apples
1 Lemon zest and juiced
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsps mixed spice

  • 500g Suet

Chop apples in to cubes and zest and juice the lemon. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. Cover and leave for 24 hours in a fridge. Spoon in to steralised jars.
Now why not get creative? 

Once you’ve made your batch of mincemeat there are lots of things you can include it in – it’s not just for mince pies!
