Breads of the World

Bread is defined as "a food consisting of flour or meal that is moistened, kneaded into dough, and often fermented using yeast, and it has been a major sustenance since prehistoric times."

Across the world there is an infinite combination of ingredients and processes producing an amazing range of breads.

On this workshop shop we will explore just some of these and while the day’s menu may change with the seasons and availability of ingredients, you can expect to make bread such as:

Mantou is a type of bread bun from northern China. It’s different from most other types of bread in that it’s steamed and not baked.

Bagels from the Jewish communities in Poland

Shokupan - Japanese milk bread.

Flat breads such as -

Roti Canai (Malaysia); Piadina (Italy) or Barbari Bread (Iran)

On this workshop, we discuss the science behind bread making, techniques and processes that create these very different breads.

We will stop for lunch where one of the breads you produce will form part of our meal for the day.

There will be lots to take home at the end of the day, so please bring plenty of bags!
