Cooking for all, cookery experiences in the Forest of Dean
Harts Barn Cookery School is all about cooking for all – all ages and skill levels are catered for, and we teach everything from banquets to basics!
We provide a huge range of regular classes, workshops, supper clubs and events plus we welcome group bookings, parties, corporate and private hire. All classes offer a hands-on element and focus on gaining practical skills and knowledge as well as being enjoyable! For our up-to-date class list please see here.
We view cooking as an essential life skill. Our ethos of ‘cooking for all’ means that we offer classes that are accessible, practical, affordable, give confidence and are lots of fun. We believe in the ‘socialisation’ of food, bringing people together whether they are learning a new skill in the kitchen or sitting down and enjoying the soiree! As well as cookery classes we run regular events, pop up restaurants, a Hire-A-Chef service, and provide parties, corporate packages, chef demos and have a wonderful earth oven, fire pit and large courtyard area for outdoor cooking experiences.

Thankyou so much for hosting my daughters birthday party! Andy was so fab! Great with kids and juggled everything so well!
Thankyou Thankyou xx
Thank you so much for my daughter’s amazing cookery party. Everyone had so much fun and it was great to see the children enjoy eating their homemade pizza and popcorn at the end! So relaxed and enjoyable for all! Can’t recommend enough. Thank you
Had a great time on my hen do learning to make cheese.... my all time passion thank you!”
When planning the hen party I had no idea what to do, then the bride said one she had been to before of a cooking thing, with a little investigation I found the lovely Harts Barn Cookery School. Got in touch via email, gave all my concerns since I have a bride intolerant to most things going so wasn’t sure if it could be incorporated. Turns out you can still do a bake off style night free from most things and it’s sill tasty!
I got there on the night quickly Slytherin and the team were really happy to help with all the little quirks I wanted to add and even helped with the bingo game.
Thank you so much everyone you really made the magic happen! Can not recommend highly enough!
Hart’s Barn Cookery School and Apple Barn is a stunning and unique venue, set in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside. I have enjoyed a number of supper clubs, including Carribean and Greek which were amazing, plus several delicious corporate buffets and my daughter also had a brilliant “Sushi-making” birthday party. Always a warm welcome from the school’s principal, Yvette, and her team. Highly recommended
We had a fabulous evening at the April supper club last night. A beautifully stocked bar with some super gin, a wonderful meal and a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent value for money - so impressed we’ve already booked for next month
“Great locally produced and freshly prepared food with locally produced drink and fabulous company. What's not to love?”
Another fantastic meal from Hart's Barn, we have gone from a truly sublime Persian takeaway two weeks ago to a tantalistic authentic Greek. Restaurant quality food to enjoy in your own surroundings. Our only regret is we didn't find you sooner!
Harts Barn Cookery School recently catered for an event I attended and the canapes were delicious! I believe that there were items for all dietary requirements, but I couldn't tell which was which as they were all incredibly tasty. A range of sweet and savoury items, and they disappeared very quickly! Thanks Yvette, looking forward to my next taste of Harts Barn!
I recently stayed in a lovely house for a short break and the owner recommended Harts Barn as we wanted a private chef for the night. Yvette and her colleague (sorry I don’t know her name) were punctual and friendly and the food they provided was beautiful. The whole service from the initial email to the clearing up of the plates was faultless. Thank you
A brilliant morning on the Fish & Shellfish course yesterday. Learned so much with a great bunch of people (thanks Janet and Bev), food was amazing and Yvette took the scary away from cooking with fish. Can't wait for another course
We attended the Family cookery session today and we cant thank Andy and his colleagues enough for a fantastic day. We learnt lots of new culinary delights and then got to sit down as a family to share and enjoy.
Andy was very informative, great with the kids and nothing to much trouble. We are already looking into our next class to attend, thankyou!
Had a wonderful afternoon with my friends attending the basic bread making course. Andy Robertson was a brilliant teacher who kept the session fun and light hearted. We learnt lots and the bread was delicious. We’ve been to a few of these cooking/ baking courses at Harts Barn and always had a thoroughly enjoyable time - highly recommended
What you learn here is really useful, professional advice, from tutors who have a passion about their subject and enjoy passing on their knowledge. The ingredients are great, the finished articles are gorgeous. Oh, the setting is FANTASTIC. A huge full-wall window and a view across the valley with sheep gently grazing on the hillside.
Small group which allowed questions and to get up close to the food! all ingredients provided, tutor knowledgeable and helpful, didn't feel silly!! tasted all food along the way, yummy! able to take some home. would recommend cookery school, lots of great courses.
I was bought a Takeaway Experience (along with Hillside Brewery tour) as a joint birthday present for me and my dad. It's not something I would normally do, but I really enjoyed it. Very relaxed atmosphere, and I learnt some good tips. If you get this as a gift there are several dates throughout the year to choose from with a particular menu.
Elizabeth has absolutely loved attending cookery classes at Harts Barn cookery school since it opened and has gained fantastic skills and inspiration from the wonderful tutors. Today she got a grade 9 (A**) in food nutrition GCSE and we are super proud
Great time learning to cook Southern Indian dishes @hartsbarncookery yesterday. Thank you for the present
